“Organic” an important agricultural trend in Germany

Organic agriculture aims to produce healthy food while protecting natural ecosystems. Almost 34,000 farms (which corresponds to 12.6 percent of all agricultural businesses) managed an area of ​​over 1.6 million hectares in Germany in 2019, and 10.1 percent more than a tenth German acreage according to the rules of organic farming. From 2008 to 2019, the proportion of organic farming in Germany increased by two and a half times. Around 60 percent of German organic farms operate in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. By 2030, the Federal Government is aiming for 20 percent of the total area used for organic farming in the total area used for agriculture.
